Fetoscopic regenerative therapy for severe pulmonary hypoplasia – a feasibility pre-randomized controlled trial study
Clinical Trial Research Grant
Research Grant Recipient: Rodrigo Ruano, MD, PhD
Grant Period: 2017-2019
Award Value: $500,000
Site: Mayo Clinic
Summary: When a baby’s lungs are not adequately developed at birth, severe complications and even death can result. Dr. Ruano brings expertise in a technique that uses a minimally invasive procedure to intervene while the fetus is still in the uterus. He will participate as one investigator in a larger clinical trial to see if this procedure can regenerate the process of lung growth and development before birth.
Rodrigo Ruano, MD, PhD, is the Director of Mayo Clinic's Fetal Diagnostic and Intervention Center and a member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Ruano has been the recipient of a number of awards and grants, and is an internationally renowned expert in fetal surgery.
